UF/IFAS drywood termite research identifies pre-1980 stick-frame construction — predominant on Hypoluxo Island and along Federal Hwy older blocks — as a documented drywood habitat. TermTrak scanner radar finds activity behind walls non-invasively.
Palm Beach County Mosquito Control identifies the Intracoastal Waterway edge — including Hypoluxo Island's western boundary — as a year-round Aedes taeniorhynchus and Culex breeding zone. Bti larvicide on standing water is the EPA-registered approach.
UF/IFAS roof rat research identifies mature live oak and palm canopy connecting to tile roofs as the highest pressure profile in coastal Florida. Hypoluxo Island and the older Hypoluxo Village blocks fit this profile. Snap-trap and exclusion — never indoor poison — is the only research-supported approach.
